Resin bonded

Resin Bonded

This system involves applying a film of resin to the surface, on top of which clean, dry aggregate is scattered, completely covering the resin. Once cured, any excess stone is swept up.

The size of stone used in the resin bonded system ranges from 1mm to 6mm. The thin, impermeable, single stone layer tends to have a rougher more textured finish.

What's The Difference?

Resin Bound

In resin bound surfacing the aggregate is mixed with the resin. The material is then trowelled down to a smooth finish similar to a screed. The Resin Bound Drive has a higher life expectancy of between 10 and 20 years.

Resin Bonded

Resin bonded surfacing is a scatter system, which provides texture and the appearance of loose gravel. For the Resin Bonded Drive, the life expectancy is between 3 and 5 years.

How It's Done

Overlay system. We initially prepare the existing surface using a high-pressure jet washer. Weed killer is applied next and then an edging, either in block paving or metal is fitted. A primer is then applied before your chosen resin stone combination. The overlay system can typically can be done in a day, with minimal inconvenience.

Full installation system will take 1 or 2 days for the groundwork and one day to lay the resin stone finish.

Taking care of your resin bonded driveway

Although your resin bound surface requires little maintenance, to keep it at its best it should be regularly swept to remove leaves, debris and dirt to prevent any moss growth or staining.

Should any moss or weed growth occur it can be treated with an appropriate herbicide and a bleach solution may be used to restore the resin to its original colour. However you should ensure the bleach is rinsed off well with clean water and always follow the manufacturers guidelines and area environmental guides.

You may contact us for more information. Should you find chewing gum on your resin surface, this should be removed by freezing and carefully chipping off. Your resin bound surface will last for many years of normal everyday usage. Heavy objects, such as skips, are not considered to be normal usage and the surface should be protected against skips being dragged across its surface.

Any light coloured aggregates may show tyre marks which can be removed by cold pressure washing (up to a maximum of 150 bar rating). The water should be applied using a fan type spray and shouldn't be too close to the surface. Take care not to use excessive water pressure.
